Pentecost 5b

L       The Lord is good to those who wait and merciful to the soul that seeks patiently for God. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord; to sit alone in silence when the Lord has imposed it… (Lamentations 3:25-26, 28) Let us confess our reluctance to wait for the Lord.

Silence is kept for confession and reflection

L       Hear, O LORD,

C       Have mercy upon us and be our helper, O Lord. Turn our wailing into dancing and clothe us with joy. (Psalm 30:10-11)

L       The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases and God’s mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in God." (Lamentations 3:22-24)

Pentecost 2b

L       "Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day… for we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:16, 18) Let us confess the ways we continue to trust in the temporary.

Silence is kept for confession and reflection

L       Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;

C       O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. (Psalm 130:1-2)

L       If you were to keep watch over sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you is forgiveness. Wait for the Lord, for with the Lord there is steadfast love (and) plenteous redemption; (Psalm 130: 3-4, 7)

Pentecost b

L          We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. (Romans 8:22, 23) Let us confess all that makes us groan inwardly.

L       Come Holy Spirit
C       Kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. (Psalm 104:30)

L       …the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)
