Passion Sunday Year B

L              “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited… but humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death — even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5, 6, 8) Let us confess the ways we resist having the mind of Christ.

L              Have mercy on me, O LORD

C             Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love. (Psalm 31:9,16)

 L              …at the name of Jesus every knee will bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11) It is the Lord GOD who helps me; who will declare me guilty? (Isaiah 50:9)

Lent 5b

L       I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. (Psalm 51:3-4) Let us confess the ways we have sinned against the Lord.

L       Have mercy, O God, according to your unfailing love;

C       Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and sustain me by a willing spirit. (Psalm 51:10-12)

L       “This is the covenant I will make with my,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. (Jeremiah 31:33-34)

Lent 4b

L       You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world… following the desires of flesh and senses and were by nature children of wrath... But God who is rich in mercy… made us alive together with Christ. (Ephesians 2:1-4) Let us confess the ways we resist our life in Christ and continue to follow the course of this world.

L       Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim;

C          Give thanks to the LORD, for the LORD is good, for God's mercy endures forever.

 L       …by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Lent 3b

L           The teaching of the LORD is perfect and revives the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure and gives wisdom to the simple. The statutes of the LORD are just and rejoice the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear and gives light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean and endures forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (Psalm 19:7-9) Let us confess the ways we resist the teaching of the Lord.

L              O Lord, my God

C           Cleanse me from my secret faults and keep me from presumptuous sins; let them not get dominion over me; then I shall be whole and sound and innocent of a great offense. (Psalm 19:12-13)

L            … the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (for) we proclaim Christ crucified, the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18, 23)

Lent 2b

L       Jesus said, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. (Mark 8:34-35) Let us confess our reluctance to deny ourselves and follow Christ.

L            You who fear the LORD, give praise!

C       All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD; all the families of nations shall bow before God, for dominion belongs to the Lord, who rules over the nations. (Psalm 22:23, 27-28)

 L        (As) Abraham’s faith "was reckoned to him as righteousness” so it will be reckoned to us who believe in God who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.

Lent 1b



L       Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting. You are gracious and upright, O LORD; therefore you teach sinners in your way. (Psalm 25:6, 8) Let us confess our reluctance to be instructed in the way of the Lord.

L       To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

C       Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions, but lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation. (Psalm 25:1, 5, 7)

L                   You are gracious and upright, O LORD; therefore you teach sinners in your way… for Christ suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring us to God. (Psalm 25:8; 1 Peter 3:18)

Transfiguration Year B

L       “What right have you to recite my statutes, or take my covenant on your lips?” says the Lord. “For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you. But those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor me; to those who go the right way I will show the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:16-17,23) Let us confess the ways we fail to honor the Lord.

L       The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

C            I will offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay my vows to the Most High. (Psalm 50:6,14)

L          Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth (for) it is God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (Psalm 50:2, 2 Corinthians 4:6)
